The Edge Network is a small network of church plants in Sheffield, UK. We are looking for Christians to join us who have an interested in church planting through missional communities in a multi-racial urban context.

Team members

We have opportunities to come long-term to church plant with:

  • marginalised people
  • Kurds
  • British Asians
  • urban Brits

You don’t need to have been to Bible college or had ministry experience. But you do need to have a passion for Jesus and for mission.

We are not in a position to provide salaries. Most our leaders and team members work part-time or full-time in secular jobs. Other are also part-funded through grants or personal supporters. We have a strong commitment to ‘ordinary’ Christians seeing themselves a missionaries and church planters.

All of our opportunities can be combined with Porterbrook Training or the Northern Training Institute.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are designed to give people experience of church planting. Each apprenticeship is tailored to the apprentice. They typically involve a mix of:

  • a day of week learning with Porterbrook Training
  • accompanying an experienced evangelist and church planter
  • playing a full role in the life of the church
  • involvement in the community and building relationships with people

It is not easy to describe what you would ‘do’. It will depend on which congregation you are linked to – they each have different ministries. Plus none of them has a ‘programme’ in the traditional sense that many churches do. We operate on a very relational level. So you will spend your time building relationships, but all the time with gospel intentionality – i.e. aiming to share the gospel with unbelievers and encourage believers with the gospel. You would also spend time serving in very practical, mundane ways – developing, we hope, good habits of service. And you would receive training – some formally through Porterbrook Training and some more informally through mentoring. We can talk more about what this might look like for you if you like.

We neither charge nor pay apprentices. Apprentices normally do the Porterbrook Training course one day a week for which there is a cost. But apprentices are free to do some part-time paid work and we may be able to help with accommodation (though this is not guaranteed).
